    Using Parent-Child Interaction Therapy with Young Children and Families in Child Welfare (DPA-Approved Presentation)

    Dr. Gurwitch specializes in improving the understanding of and response to children with child traumatic stress. She is a leading trainer on Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)* at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center with extensive experience using and training others to use PCIT, including how to work with children with challenging behaviors in child welfare systems.

    She is a Professor and Program Coordinator of the National Center for School Crisis and Bereavement at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and a licensed Psychologist and Marriage and Family Therapist. She is a Fellow in the American Psychological Association. She has authored numerous articles on PCIT and is a leading trainer in the nation.

    *PCIT is listed on the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP).

  • 12:30 p.m. A Discussion: The Family Experience

    Young children with social, emotional and behavioral challenges and their parents, caregivers or foster parents are the focus population of the young child mental health system of care that is being developed through the Division of Prevention and Behavioral Health Services’ Delaware’s B.E.S.T. for Young Children and Their Families initiative and its providers and community partners. This is an opportunity to hear from parents and caregivers about the value and meaning of the services they receive.
